They then assemble the frames into bikes (using the same component as all the other brands.) This is not the case for most or all of the bike models sold by Scott and Trek. The familiar US-based brands mostly contract with companies like Merida to make their bikes for them. This doesn’t mean that one brand’s bikes are better than another’s. Apr 9, 2009 - any way. Its crunch time and i have my eyes set on the Merida Juliet 904 2009 model but i cant seem to find any reviews on it.
Are Merida Bikes Any Good
There are a few bike companies that use 'wholesale' chinese carbon frames. Merida is one, Focus and Ritte are others.

Basically these companies use generic carbon frames that can be bought much cheaper from factories in China and then label them as their own, when they source enough cash from sales, they license the frame factory to produce an exclusive model or models for their company so they have 'official/exclusive frames to build/solidify a brand. Focus and Merida did this a while ago, Ritte has just moved from the repainting generic phase to brand frame phase.
They don't have the marketing/engineering/name notoriety of big name brands like Colnago, Trek, Giant (which might have been produced in the same factory) so cheaper asking price is their angle for sales at the moment. Those 'bootleg/chinarello' chinese carbon frames you buy off aliexpress or whatever are often times name frames sold out the back door or small companies that license a run of their frame in these gigantic frame/component factories that make stuff for the big brand names.
